The Nun
I am going to be looking at the opening scene for 'The Nun' and analysing the different conventions of genre.
- Setting - Isolated, old building.
- Begins with two characters, but then there is only one of the characters and she is alone and vulnerable.
- Sound - Enhanced sound effects of doors creaking, which gives a sinister feeling and unsettles the audience.
- The use of blood shows the genre.
- Iconography - Dark lighting and colouring, only using of light is coming from a candle.
- Themes - Supernatural - the antagonist isn't shown, but is doing different things so that the characters know he is there (such as opening doors).
- Slow pace of editing to create suspense, as well as sudden fast cuts to show the characters fear.
