Baby Driver
I am going to be looking at the opening scene for the film Baby Driver which is a comedy/action film, and analysing the conventions of opening sequences.
The film begins with music which sets the mood, the music is diegetic as well as exciting, which also gives an indication of the genre. There is the introduction of three main characters and there is a series of different shots of the one of the main characters dancing and singing along to the music in his car. There are sound effects of police sirens and the music comes to a sudden stop, it then continues quieter with the sounds of screaming and an alarm going off in the background. This causes a change in the mood and gives a narrative enigma. There is a sense of mystery with the build up and chase scene as this will catch the audiences attention and will make them want to continue watching the film. The pace of editing is very quick throughout the scene. The setting is also shown at the start with the focus on his car, as well as the city the film takes place in, shown during the police chase.
