Opening Scene 3 - La La Land

La La Land

I am going to be looking at the opening scene for the film La La Land, which is a musical film, and analysing the conventions of opening sequences.

The film begins with people singing and dancing which is the indication that the genre is a musical. The mood of the film is also displayed through the weather and music. The setting is shown as the film takes place in Los Angeles. Lots of different characters are introduced, but not the main characters, which gives a sense of mystery of what is going to happen and this will influence the audience to want to continue watching to see the introduction of them. The name of the film is shown towards the end of the scene.
